Jim and I were regular bridge partners in the 90s, while we both worked at Draper Lab, in Cambridge MA. We played at the MIT/DL bridge club, other clubs in the area, and in tournaments from Boston to Saratoga. We teamed with Alan Kotok and Alan Frantz to win a trip to New Orleans to play in flight B of the Grand National Teams, the highlight of our partnership. It was a great trip.
Jim used to sail from the Boston Yacht Club on the Charles. He had fine stories of earning his captain's license and skippering a rented sailboat in the Caribbean with his family as crew. He always impressed me as one of the best family men I ever met.
For much of the past year, we had the pleasure of playing bridge online once or twice most weeks. Jim was a good friend, and I'll miss him. My heartfelt condolences to Mary Ruth and the family.
