Next to this 2.25" by 3.35" image in the front of the small red "Classmates" album, I filled in: Peter Matthews, 7 years old, second grade, Harris school. Comparison of my teeth to other pictures shows this one is consistent with Fall 1955; by Jan 1956, that descending tooth will be all the way down. . The rest of the pictures are my classmates with Mrs Costa at the Harris School. Born in June, I was a young second-grader; the other kids look older than me (or had the sense to keep their mouths closed), and better dressed. These photos are 1" by 1.5" (slightly larger than 35 mm contact prints) and start with a chalked sign: "Harris Needham 1 C," which probably meant first grade, combined. . Mrs Costa taught a combined 1st and 2nd grade class, and I had her for second grade only. (I recall Mrs Sturgis for first grade, but not much about her.) The album is truly neat, as my Dad wrote the names of all the kids under their pictures - but the spelling probably came from me, and is suspect. |
