1958-02-17 1 Big Snow, 204 Highgate St, Needham |
A WBUR article posted 28 Jan 2015 lists the storm of 16-17 Feb 1958 as Boston's tenth largest snowfall, 19.4 inches, and the largest recorded to that time. . The nine larger snowfalls were all more recent. As you may recall, they got creative with their calculations, measuring the snow on a bench, and then sweeping it away hourly. My guess, nobody counted until well after WW II. . The Blizzard of '78 was second largest at 27.1 inches, but that came on top of other storms, including a major storm on Jan 20, when Val and I trekked into Boston to pass papers on 18 Wellesley Park, only to find the sellers had stayed home. . Dad used Dutch Boy white lead paint. Maybe it has grayed here. He sure spent a lot of time painting the house. [back stamped 864] |
