Diane: The last storm of the year, and the biggest! . Wikipedia says it was a Category 4 (crippling) storm affecting New England and the Mid-Atlantic. "Blizzard conditions organized in eastern Massachusetts, accompanied by intense winds. The storm caused at least 80 fatalities and stranded thousands of residents." . WBUR says 19.8 inches on 3-5 Mar 1960 was Boston's largest recorded snowfall at the time. It's 9th as of 2 Oct 2021, and 10th is 19.4 inches on 15-16 Feb 1958. . I'm pegging this date as Sun 6 Mar. WBUR did not count 1717 (a series of four storms dumped at least 5 feet on New England) and 1888 (40-60 inches on New England, with some drifts as high as 50 feet; a record 400 people died). |
