1900~ House of the Hezekiah Thomas, Frederick Perry & Burt Nettleton Families, as it looked in 1840, Bethany CT |
Aunt Ceal, Jennie & Emma Perry in front of their house, formerly the Hezekiah Thomas house, and later the summer home of Jennie & Burt Nettleton. Those are men's bikes with high crossbars - would be difficult to ride in a long skirt. Frederick Perry 1844-1912 . m. (1874) Celia E 'Ceal' Wheeler 1854-1938 . . . . . Emma A Perry 1877-1908 . . . . . Jennie Florence Perry 1879-1944 . George: Bert Nettleton added an outdoor porch on the south side where the small addition is. I never did go upstairs but saw all the downstairs rooms. The Nettleton kitchen at the back I think may have been added on. ... There was no central heating in the house until after Jennie died, as Bert and Jennie only used it as a summer home. Bert, GG told me, put in partial heating so he could stay there longer and then go to Florida for the winter. I remember visiting them one time when we were told he'd just completed putting in a bathroom. . This is also the house where Mary Eliza Stevens was brought up. The front room on the right side of the photo [behind Emma] is the room where she married Timothy Fowler, 19 April 1840, in Bethany CT. Also written on the back of one copy of the photo is, "Aunt Thomas' house opp. Bethany Church." Mary Eliza Stevens was eleven years old when her mother, Mary, died in 1828. Mary Eliza then lived with "Aunt Thomas," her mother's sister Margaret. Mary Stevens 1791-1828 . m. (1810~) Milton Stevens 1790-1829 . . . . . Mary Eliza Stevens 1818-1885 . . . . .
