Neyland Stadium, one of the largest stadiums in North America, is named for General Robert Neyland (1892-1962), the football coach who, in his 21 years at U.T., led the Vols through nine undefeated seasons and brought the Vols a national championship in 1951. Coach Neyland was known both for his rigourous practice sessions, most of which took place on a dirt field here beside the river, and his football theories or maxims, some of which are listed below.
