Victor Hugo agreed to allow Rodin to make his portrait, provided he did not have to pose for it, instead, Rodin was allowed to attend lunches and dinners at Hugo's home so he could observe his model in a relaxed setting. The sculptor kept his supplies on a nearby balcony and moved between the two spaces as he worked. |
