2023-05-08 057 Eternal Springtime (clay 1884, plaster painted white 1885); Rodin Museum, Philadelphia |
Modeled around the same time as "The Kiss" (displayed nearby), this sculpture's pair of lovers is caught in a floating embrace with graceful, outstretched limbs. This plaster was made for the Scottish writer Robert Louis Stevenson, who defended Rodin's realism and honesty following the sculptor's rejection from an 1886 London exhibition. |
