White earthware with black glaze. Starting on this vase's round body, follow the hand-carved design up and around its serpentine insert to notice how the shapes evoke a sense of infinite movement. Said used a potter's wheel as well as carved and hand-built elements to create the tension between the dark, shiny, smooth surfaces and those that hold a textured pattern inspired by Islamic geometric designs. |
