In the early 1800s, American artists painted dozens of portraits of George Washington. He was a celebrity and everyone wanted his picture. Washington posed for portraits by Philadelphia painter Charles Willson Peale. His son Rembrandt sat in on one posing session, and later made dozens of Washington portraits, copying his own work and his father's finished portraits. |
