THIS HERBACEOUS TEACHING GARDEN is designed and maintained by the students, faculty, and staff of the Barnes Arboretum at Saint Joseph's University with the goal of educating visitors about the connection between ornamental horticulture and local ecology in a time of rapid climate change. The garden contains plants that include specimens native to the mid-Atlantic region as well as non-native plants that appeal to pollinators and other beneficial wildlife. These plants, the wildlife they attract, and the utilization of key design principles create interest through all seasons and a garden that functions as an integral part of the local ecology.
