Lilyhaven, 878 Pendleton Point Road When we bought Lilyhaven from Marilyn and David Wenner in 2012, we were so delighted by the gardens, which the Wenners put in when the house was built in 1996 and enhanced over the years. Natasha Stevens has ably taken over the gardens in recent years. The peony and lavender gardens by the front door are filled out with different varieties of salvias, and an herb bed is situated by the side entrance for easy access from the kitchen. On the east side of the house, large beds run along the raised patio and around the pool area, where hydrangeas, peonies, and irises are interspersed with other perennials. A round picking garden encircled by purple nepeta centers on dahlias, zinnias, and salvias, and provides a pop of color to contrast with the overall themes of blues, pinks, purples, and whites over the property. The area of mowed lawn has been extended in recent years, and various border plantings of perennials and shrubbery have been added and expanded, including varieties of hydrangeas, ferns, and rhododendrons. Towards the west side of the property, fruit trees have been planted around the pond where water lilies thrive. A large produce garden and glass greenhouse provide fresh fruits, vegetables, and additional herbs, including strawberries, melons, garlic, and many types of vegetables. Our favorite seed suppliers are Pinetree Garden Seeds and Johnny's Selected Seeds, and our favorite nurseries are Moose Crossing Garden Center and Plants Unlimited. Jessica Bowlin |
