Tony Polio, New Haven CT & J B Perry: Stationed at the air base in Monroe LA, this picture was taken at Columbia, just south of Monroe. We were befriended by the Lewellyan family and spent many weekends at their home. Most gracious hosts.
Tony Polio and I became good friends while at San Antonio and continued through to navigation school. When the point system came out (based on combat medals, battle stars, overseas credit, etc.), I had the most points of anyone on the field, and Tony had the second largest number of points. We both were officially discharged on Sep 14, 1945 at Fort Dix NJ.
When this picture was taken, I was some ten days from my twenty-fifth birthday. This is the only picture I have in the army after returning from over-seas. (I had sold my camera for some $300 in Cambrai, France, before returning to the states.)
