Pete Jr (after consultation with Andrea & Dan): Each "xx" brick or dash represents one month July 10, 1946 = Diane & Pete met on a blind date with another, couple. Jeep = The two couples rode to an Esplanade concert in the other man's jeep. Heart = love. 15th date [21 Sep 47*] Airplane = unknown: plane ride or trip to Douglaston to meet Pete's parents? [Dec 46] Sigma Nu pin = Pete had his fraternity pin turned into an engagement ring. Andrea found an example, and it's 5-pointed (see 1947 images); the ruby eye kept falling out and got lost. [Jan 47*] Champagne glass = wedding announcment. [Mar 47*] [Pete's June graduation from MIT not illustrated] Church = Wedding [23 Jun 47*] Train ==> to honeymoon on Kezar Lake, a connection between 'Old Course Saco River' and the 'Charles River/Kezar Outlet', likely via train to Fryeburg ME - the disused tracks are now being converted to hiking/biking trails. [Jul 47] Key = Moved to 48 Flint St, Somerville MA. Before moving, they likely lived in Wellesley with Doris & Ped for a couple of months, while repairing the apartment. [Sep 47*] Key = Moved to 49 Wainwright St, Dorchester [Apr 48] Baby carriage = Pete Jr arrives. [Jun 48*] House = Moved to the family home, 204 Highgate Street, Needham MA. DIane: [Sep 49*] Diane: We didn't have two nickels to rub together, but we could buy a house, because we had the GI Bill. Baby carriage = Dan arrives. [May 50] Car = Plymouth Coupe (probably 47 model). [Jul 52, photo 7 May 55] Wagon*, balloon, boys, sun & kite: fun in the sun. * we have images for these events The car could be six, 12 or 26 months after Dan arived, depending on how you read it: Nov 50, May 51, or Jul 52. Our photos contain no hint of having a car in 51. Doris came over from Wellesley, when Diane needed to go somewhere. Pete arranged with other MIT Instrumentation Lab folks to take him to work, probably starting with Sid Kimber; or he took the train from Birds Hill (now Hersey) station. |
