| An award-winning bodybuilder when he met Rodin in 1901 (and later a manufacturer of dental supplies), Samuel Stockton White III (American, 1876-1952) was the only Philadelphian to model for the sculptor. White assumed the position you see here, which recalls Rodin's "The Thinker" of 1880-81. The artist presented this bronze to White in 1904 in thanks. |
