Scientists believe the model for "The Clenched Hand" was an individual with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, a nerve disorder that can cause muscle contractions. Early in his career Rodin took anatomy lessons at the Musee Dupuytren in Paris and used its collection of medical specimens to consider how parts of bodies could convey different types of human experiences. |
